REIKI.....

Put simply Reiki is a form of healing using universal energy. To become a Reiki practitioner you have to have classes with a Reiki Master who will perform attunements with you. This means that he opens up your top four chakras (whilst keeping you protected).

I have reached Reiki 2 and have been attuned a total of six times. My next step is to become a Reiki Master myself. You are also taught sacred symbols which can be used during a healing session or for absent healing, but should only be divulged to another who has practised Reiki 2 or Master level. Once attuned you are able to harness universal energy through the hands and pass this on to the recipient. It is impossible to force this energy on to anyone, and the recipient's body will take in only the amount of healing energy that it needs.

It can be used for all sorts of ailments both physical and emotional. At its very basic, Reiki can relax and calm a person or animal. At its most complicated it can help with pain and illness including emotional pain. Plants can even be healed with Reiki. Food and drink can be given a dose of Reiki to make it more healthy. The list goes on and on! Hands do not have to touch the body at all, but during most healing sessions, the hands are placed on the shoulders, head, knees, ankles and feet. There really is no right and wrong. Each healer does what feels right at the time.

If I am healing my husband who has a bad lower back, I will place my hands directly on to the point of pain and leave them there for a while. The recipient may or may not feel anything. They may feel intense heat or tingling. They may also feel nothing at all. This does not mean that the Reiki is not working. It always works where it is needed! Whilst I am healing, I feel heat all over my hands both on the palms and on the back of my hands and sometimes around my wrists. Also my fingers will buzz or tingle.

I always ask for my guides to come in and help if they feel it necessary, and if they do, my right hand will feel like pins and needles. I have great respect for Reiki, and it is an honour and a privilege to be able to use it to help others. My job involves working with children, and Reiki can be used if they are in pain or upset. There does not have to be a great ritual, just placing my hands on their head or a simple cuddle is often just what is needed. I also calmed a very hyper-active puppy using Reiki, and his owner thought I had put him in a coma! (I hadn't - he was just sound asleep). Reiki is with me for life and for this I will always be grateful.
