The old year has passed and a new year is ahead of us. If we look back on the old year, we can ask ourselves about it. What did we accomplish? Many people make resolutions at the beginning of the new year, but few of those resolutions are ever kept. Setting goals for the coming year are much easier to meet than keeping resolutions.

There are secrets to meeting goals. Well, they really are not secrets, but many people do not really understand goal setting. So lets think about how to set, and meet goals.

First, you have to decide on a goal. Lets take an example and see how to go about it. Assume that you own your own home and that you have decided that you would like to have a deck on your home. So you can say, "I would like to have a deck on my home." Now, are you likely to have that deck? Well, maybe, someday you might. You see, you have not set a goal to have that deck, you have only expressed a desire for a deck. So what you have to do is state your desire in the form of a goal, like this, "I will have a deck on my home." Now will you get that deck? Probably, some day. But by the time that you get it you may be too old to enjoy it. You also have to give a time frame in which to have that deck. So lets change the goal a little. "I will have a deck on my home this year." Now that is better, we have decided upon a goal and set a time frame to make that goal take place.

Make sure that your goal is reasonable. Suppose that you had said, "I will have a deck on my home by this afternoon." Unless you happen to have a genii in a bottle, or can perform miracles yourself, it is not going to happen. Your goal is unreasonable.

OK, you set a reasonable goal to have a deck on your home this year. Now you can sit back and relax, right? Wrong. You have only taken the first step. So, second thing, you have to make a plan on how that deck is going to come about. This involves a few steps. First of all you need a design for the deck. Do you have the necessary skills to design a deck yourself? Maybe you are very artistic and can come up with a beautiful design, but is it structurally safe and sound? If you don't have the necessary skills to design the deck, there are books available that have designs in them, you might find a design that way, or you could hire a professional to design it for you.

Ok, you set a reasonable goal, and you have the design that you like. Now you can relax, right? Sorry, you have only begun. You have made a good start, but that is all. The materials to construct that deck are not going to just magically appear, so using your design, you are going to have to come up with a list of materials, the materials actually needed to build the deck. And then using that list of materials, you now have to estimate the cost.

Having estimated the cost, you now have to decide how you are going to finance your new deck. Do you have the ready cash to pay for it? Or are you going to have to take out a loan? We are going to come back to this phase in a moment.

Assume that you have done all of the above. How is the deck going to get built? Do you want this to be a home project that you do yourself? If so, do you have the necessary skills? If you don't have the necessary skills, can you take a class? Or are you going to hire a contractor to build it for you? If you are going to take a class or hire a contractor, you will have to add that expense to the materials expense.

If you are going to build it yourself, you are going to have to schedule time to work on it. If you are going to hire a contractor, you will want to get at least three bids, and also want to see samples of their work. You might also ask others about various contractors.

Now you have done all of your planning, now you can relax, right? Nope. Now you have to work your plan. And when you have finished working your plan, then you can relax on your new deck.

These same basic concepts will work with other types of goals as well. Say you decide that you would like to have 4 rental properties for income. First you would have to set the goal and then come up with a plan to achieve that goal. Probably the cheapest way to achieve such a goal would be to buy a "fixer-upper," a house that was livable but needed a lot of work. Move into it and live in it as you work on it. When it is all repaired, sell it for a substantial profit and buy another fixer-upper. Do the same thing. When you get 3 rental properties, that would be time to change your goal from 4 rentals to 10 rentals. In this type of situation, you should never reach your goal, when you get near the goal, change it.

Goals do not have to be materially oriented, they can be spiritual goals as well, or educational ones.

So set your goals, but always make sure that your goals are reasonable and something that you can accomplish. If your annual income is $30,000, it would be unreasonable to have a goal to save $100,000 in one year unless you made some major changes in your life. Make plans on how you are going to make your goals a reality. Work your plans. Enjoy the end results.

See below) promoting sincerity, devotion, cooperation, and understanding in both user and between those he/she comes in contact with. Physical/Mundane uses include treatment of Depression, Rheumatism, Arthritis, Heart/Blood disorders and a Stimulant for Sex drive and Reproductive system (in a "pure" and "non-passionate" way I presume). Booster for Joy, Positive Will Power, Self Confidence, Selflessness and Compassion. Used to treat disorders of Blood, Heart, Circulation system, Fevers, and the Pox.

MALACHITE: Life/Growth/Fertility energy projector and receiver. Traditionally protector against Harm and Negativity; especially for Children and any New Growth. Healing and Balancing whole body system (physical and spiritual). Used in treatments for disorders including Eye infections, Asthma, Menstrual and Childbirth problems, Poisoning (intentional and non. A cup made of Malachite will "neutralize" any poison), Joint pains such as Arthritis and Rheumatism and disorders of the Spleen and Pancreas.
Said also to safe guard Buildings against Storm (Lightening, Wind, Rain, etc) damage.

BLACK ONYX: Restrain and redirect "bodily" passion into Spiritual Strength and Inspiration. Banishes Grief, Despair, Melancholy (keep those cantaloupes safe from the dog-oh never mind). Enhances Self-control, and Wise decision making by aiding in seeing the "Big Picture"; the cause/effects of actions, the underling patterns, and the other side of situations, boosting Judgement and Instinct. Used medicinally to treat disorders relating to Feet, Bone Marrow and soft "internal" tissues. Also once used in treatment of Epilepsy and "THE" fits. (Interesting Medieval Astrological note here: If you are one who was born with Saturn in an unfavorable position and choose to wear Black Onyx; Be Warned! You will be "exposed to the assaults of daemons, bad visions at night, plague with quarrels, law suits and melancholy by day. Your labors will be nullified and you will feel the pinch of poverty quickly. Your only recourse (apparently simply taking it off just doesn't work-me) will be to wear Sard which will counteract and reverse all misfortunes." So, you just might want to check where Saturn was when you were born before accessorizing your wardrobe.)

HEMATITE: Best know for it's "Negative Energy" drawing/absorption abilities; working more as a Sponge than a Shield. Historical "All Healing Stone" said to be able to draw any and all maladies and Illnesses from the Body and Mind. Meditation wise can be used to draw /re-focus mind away from distractions and align it on more Spiritual matters and/or logical and insightful reasoning. Also said to be a Good Scrying stone by drawing" away non-essential information/visions. Also said to be able to help smooth out Relationship matters by enhancing equilibrium within and without. (FYI- Stone is said to be able to Heal itself. If scratched, one just rubs the "wound" and it will disappear. Never tried it, but sounded interesting.)

EMERALD: Green=Growth=Earth Energy. Stimulates Health of both Mind and Body by stimulating Mental focus and capacity and attuning/balancing Body to Universal harmony. Known especially as a "Love" stone for/with user promoting Sensitivity, Loyalty, Harmony and stimulating ability to foresee problems in Relationships before they can occur and prompting correction of same before they "overwhelm and dispel achievement". Said to stimulate and protect all types of Plant growth/health. Has been used to treat disorders of Spine, Lungs, Heart, Muscular and Nervous systems. Also good reputation as promoting financial success/security.

ROSE QUARTZ: Draws Acceptance, Friendship, Love (plutonic), Compassion, that Peaceful, Easy Feeling. The "security blanket" of Stones promoting feelings of self-worth/contentment and aiding the manifestation in ones life of all that is Mellow and Nice.

CAPRICORNIC STONES (Jan. 1- Jan. 19)

HEMATITE: Ditto

BLACK ONYX: You Guessed It.

MALACHITE: Yep (and so much for all the easy listings for the moment)

AGATE (S): All in All, the Swiss Army Stone providing/drawing/projecting Energy and Aid for just about anything of wish help with body, mind, and soul. In specific, well, in the references I have I count 37 varieties-from Angle Wing to Woodward Ranch Plume- so I'm NOT going there. However, I'm a strong believer in the Rule of Connective ness so that any One Agate is connected with All others and thusly one should be able to work something out between you and the Rock you have and tap into what's needed. In general, however, Agates have been used to secure Health and Wealth, Protection and Healing of All levels of existence, and scrying the Future, past and/or Present. Work with Them and discern for yourself what can be achieved.

SNOWFLAKE OBSIDEON: Aide in Isolating and trapping those "negative" things in or affecting you life and thus acting as purifier and balancer of Mind and Body. Also can you used to help one recognize what needs attention and empower the work needed to actualize them. A good Divination stone, but only as far (from my own experience) as Black/White/Yes/No questions are involved. However, by bringing out both sides of an "issue" one is more able to make rational/better informed decision so whatever works for the user. Has been used in the treatment of disorders of blood and circulation system, skeletal structure, skin inflammations, and eyestrain. Also adds power to workings involving materialization of dreams into actuality.

LAPIS LUZULI: "Peace" bringer to Body and Mind of user and those in contact with. Fellow/Friendship drawer, Calmness and Serenity Booster. Adds Depths to Meditations and Scrying work by focusing mind of "essentials" and details.

AQUARIAN STONES (Jan 20-Jan 31)

AQUAMARINE: Adds Expanse and Depth to Meditations, aids in attaining Innocence and Purity of thought and purpose, clarity of Vision/Understanding of situations and relationships. Protects user and user's property against "harm" during "Water" travel (on, above, and below) including from Sea Sickness. Ward against Idleness and Slander. Used in treatments for Throat soreness and congestion, relieving nervous disorders, Glandular problems, and general malaise of the Throat, Jaw and Teeth. Promotes "stability" between significant others. Note: Aquamarine has been historically connected to "the Sea" and Water of all types and a majority of the Deities thereof. So, in my opinion any "workings" of a "water" nature (actual or symbolic) can only be aided by utilizing this Stone.

AMETHYST: Soothing, Calming, Mitigating energy between User and Life's little upsets. Used for Ward against general harm and being attacked psychically, Addictions, Poor Judgment, Sloppy Thinking and poor Reactions to/by user. (Does nothing for typing skills however). Used in treatments effecting Hearing, Skeletal Structure, Nervous system, Digestive tract, Heart, Teeth, Skin, Insomnia, Headaches, Menstrual pains, and so on. In general, absorbs and holds any "negativity" away from user. Note: According to one source, Amethyst is a one-way Stone that cannot be "cleansed", but should be disposed of when it ceases to work and replaced with a "new" one. Have no idea of the validity of this (never had any problems with mine, but don't use it all that often). Just thought I'd bring it up as something to watch out for and/or to ask for further information from anyone regarding this

GARNET: See Capricorn Stones.

MOSS AGATE: Used historically, by some Amerindians (don't know which) as power focus and aid in Weather Control especially involving "Rain", both bringing and sending away. Also used to promote Fertility in the Plant Kingdom including sensitivity to and communication with. Promotes Agreeability and Persuasiveness in dealing with others and strengthens/stimulates ones ability the Beauty in All things and situations, no matter how deeply hidden. Used in treating Dehydration, Eye disorders, Fungal infections, and basic detoxing the system. Said also to help relieve symptoms of the Flu and Colds and, if rubbed on Skin will help clear up infections and inflammations.

TOURQUOISE: a Stone of Protection; against the Evil Eye, Black Witchcraft, from poison ness Snakes and Spiders, Disease, Violence directed towards you and being thrown from a Horse (will also protect the Horse from injury and becoming over exerted). Has been used to treat Headaches, Eye disorders and Fevers. Traditional (for some) Love Indicator as if Turquoise is exchanged with "lover" as long as the Color remains "true" the Love is strong. If it starts to fade, the Love is on the wane and steps need to be taken to restore both.

MOONSTONE: Traditionally; Fulfillment of Desires of Heart. Promotes Restful sleep and Pleasant dreams. Draws forth, empowers ands enhances Feminine energies, aspects and attributes in one's nature. Stimulates confidence and composer. Aids in the acceptance of What IS while adding booster to those activities which most insure a bright future. Historically refered to as "a Traveler's Stone" used to protect you and yours while traveling-especially across water. Used to insure ease of pregnancy, childbirth, PMS, and Change of Life stress. Historically it has been, and still is, a Symbol of the Moon and thus carries all it's "metaphysical potentials.

OPAL: Again, with 19 specific varieties listed in just the references I have on hand, I'll just go with a general "garden variety" Opal and suggest that, like with the Agate, the Rules of Connective ness may be applied. So, quoting Scott Cunningham's "Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem and Metal Magic", "Opal contains the colors as well as the qualities of every other Stone and as such can be "programmed" or "charged" with virtually every type of energy and used in spells involving ALL magical needs". It has been used by many "primitive" tribes as a key unlocking Vision Questing and Meditating by bringing mind into focus that which is beyond normal "sight". It is said to bring out hidden beauty and power, to attract Health, Money, Love, and Balance in Life. Used to Disperse/Promote (as treatment) calls for Infections, Eye disorders, Tainted blood and kidney disorders, ease Childbirth and Alleviate Fevers. Note: It is said that wrapping an Opal in a fresh Bay leaf and then carried next to skin will grant the user/carrier Invisibility by blocking others from seeing you. (Much like using a Fire Grizal to Cloud Men's Minds). Helps one draw Creativity, Spontaneity, Inspiration and Imagination into to user's Life/Mind.

FOSSILS: Longevity, and Transmutation of Possible into Probable. Past Life regression via tapping, it's "Organic" Energy field via Psychometry or Mediation. My also be used to "tap" the Elemental forces that brought about "fossilization"; Air, Fire, Water and Earth. No "medical" uses in treatments, but Hardening of Arteries, Kidney Stones, Stiffness of Joints, Cramps and being turned to Stone due to Magical backlash all symbolically come to mind. JET: "Black Amber". Combing Attributes and Properties of Fossils and Hematite would be you best bet price wise. True Jet is quite expensive and unless you are able to tell difference between Real and Synthetics save you money as it's a rather "ugly" Stone.

Recently, a worried parent wrote to me about her small daughter. The child refused to sleep at night as she was afraid of the ghosts who frequently visited her. The parent writes: under normal circumstances we would have put this down to a young child's over active imagination, but because we have also had some unusual experiences in our home we are wondering if she is telling the truth.

I thought you would be interested in my reply.

Most children see Spirit, they are still so close to that reality. As they grow life discourages this creative gift, which is sad. The gift comes from the same creative source as all gifts of the Spirit within.

Unfortunately, many people still hold the archaic opinion that all imagination is fanciful day dreaming. If this opinion takes root in the child's awakening sensitivity the child will mistrust their imagination and its inspiration. Consequently, a lack of self esteem blocks future development of natural creative expression. Respecting and encouraging a child's inner life allows the spiritual essence to become the guiding influence. Conditions are then ripe for creativity to unfold, and the Soul progresses, hand in hand with the Divinity, the God within.

I would suggest you drop the word 'ghost,' and all the superstitious connotations connected with this word. Talk to your daughter about the people she sees and explain that she is very lucky to be visited by these playmates from the Spirit World, the afterlife, the reality she came from. You must choose your words carefully for you know your daughter and her possible reactions. She sounds as if she is a sensitive child. I don't mean weak or fragile, but sensitive to atmospheres and energy changes. This sensitivity needs to be handled carefully by not letting her see scary movies or too much television. Today's overly dramatic news presentation may not be understood by a four-year old, but her sensitivity would get the drift. Even loud arguments happening within her hearing from other members of the family would feed into her sensitivity. So if your daughter speaks of seeing unpleasant things I would suggest these images are resulting from her fears.

If her imagination is being over stimulated by any of the above it would make her afraid to sleep. She may be worried about what happens to you, or between you, when she sleeps. Children act out our problems, which they cannot put into words because the lack the vocabulary to verbalize their fears.

I have seen Spirit communicators since I was your daughter's age. Thankfully, my parents were Spiritualists and very fine Medium's. So my gift grew in fertile ground. It was later, up to me, how I used it. The media does great harm to this great truth. In the film "The Sixth Sense" the young boy was tormented by Spirit. This is totally untrue in real life. Spirit protects children from this interference. Unfortunately, Spirit Guide's cannot protect children from the physical; mental or emotional abuses humankind dishes out. Even our education system does not encourage sensitivity.

A way to allay her fears would be to let her take part in a cleansing of her bedroom. Pretend you are pushing out of the windows and doors the energy which disturbs her. Then describe to her the fairy people and angels that are surrounding her bed. Maybe you could all take part in drawing a picture of this gathering. Do this long before her bedtime and let her take the picture to bed with her? Suggest she names the individuals in the group. Also, you can go to the God of your understanding and ask for peace of mind for your daughter. Meanwhile work on any religious superstitions you and your partner may hold. Many religions still personify a devil and punishment in hell, it is time to lose these images remembering that where love is nothing else can enter.

"Ah....Dragons...we are an old breed us dragons, as old as the Earth herself. How glorious our past, how wonderous! Forgive me...allow me to introduce myself~

I am called Gilamere of RisBroghna, that is wise earth in your language. I am commonly known as an Earth dragon. I use the word commonly in jest, for no dragon is common. Us Earth dragons, we are the largest of our kind, there are other kinds of dragons and they will speak to you another time, but for now let me explain what us Earth dragons do. Did I tell you that we are the largest of our kind?...Hmm, I believe I did and quite handsome, if I do say so myself, but I am biased...being an Earth dragon. Sure...the others have their good qualities and responsibilities... but we as RisBroghna have the greatest job...what is that you ask?

Why we are the royal protectors of our Lady the Earth. We are the dragons you have read about in your myths and legends...the ones who slept within the caves and caverns guarding the treasures of the Lady.

I could never understand why your kind was so insistent in trying to kill us and rob us of her bounty? After all we were protecting it for you...for your future! We tried to tell you but you would not listen, and sad to say you are still not listening.

At one time your kind was sociable and left us to do our job unhindered by swords and spears. But then you changed, your once pure hearts filled with darkness and greed controlled your minds. And so you came to destroy us and steal what was yours in the first place. I could never understand that? But then again there's not much I understand about your kind.

You came with your swords and your false aligations against us...what aligations? You told your kind we were evil, dangerous! That we took your children and devoured them whole and living. And in your dark souls you gave us your maidens to placate us. We never took them, they were freed by your own kind. But your leaders lied to you to keep you in fear of us. To exact their vengence upon us.

Ah...we could have detroyed you all! But that is not the way of the dragon, we are noble and pure of heart and it is against our creed to kill senselessly. After all you are also part of the Lady and to kill you would be the same as killing a brother.

No..we let you slay us, hoping that eventually you would come to the realization of our worth. But that has taken countless centuries, and in that time you have taken our Elders from us. Cut them down where ever you found them, and our nestlings you destroyed...our future slaughtered! But in truth how could we expect anything else from your kind? Is that not what you do among yourself...destroy your selves and your future?

So in desperation those of us that were left fled your world into realms of safety, away from your kind, from the swords, from the death. And we waited, waited in hope, waited with the knowledge that one day those of you with the memories, those of you with pure heart would bring us back. It's been a long wait. But the light has touched the darkness and it has begun. In the pure hearts of your little ones the dragon lives! Not as an evil destroyer of your kind but as a magical protector, gentle and kind. And even some of your Elders have called to us...permitting us to enter your realm and asking us for wisdom and protection. And this pleases us...us that are left. Now after the dark time we are starting to become as we were in the beginning~brothers!

We are magical as you are, and as real. Surely this will bring us together into a brighter future, a future where dragons are common!

Enough for now my Human friend, later the others will speak to you of their tales of enchantment. Until then, keep us within your heart and remember the song of the dragon.
