BIRTH STONES OF FEBRUARY

The usual disclaimer: Stone Magic works, but differs from person to person and task to task so I make no guarantees (nor should any be implied) that the information/uses listed are "set in stone". Please remember that they should be in no way considered substitutes for medical treatment of serious conditions. Many references, many approaches, many results. What can one say? I offer the following in hopes you enjoy it and may get some insights you may not have had before. Questions and/or Comments are more than welcome to Mark at "theotherhalfs@ AOL.com". So without further ado:
February's Birth stone: Well, for once, everyone was in agreement and so I think I'll ramble a bit. The Stone of Choice is:
AMETHYST: Stone of Spirituality, Contentment, Transformation, Protection, Healing and "Clean" living. The name comes from the Greek meaning "without intoxication" which, in turn, is derived from a legend/myth of a young nymph named "Amathea" who was being "stalked" by the God Bacchus. Finally, in desperation, she asked Dianna for protection and the Goddess, in turn, transformed her into a precious gemstone (note: Be very careful of what you think your asking for). Bacchus, broken hearted, gave the stone it's color in remembrance of (a) His Love, (B) Wine/Grapes, (C) both, neither, who knows. And gave it the power to protect any who wore it against the "disagreeable" effects of Wine (including detecting poison in drink/food. Supposedly loses it's color when it touches those "extra" additives), and any worldly "addictions". And interesting carry over of this legend was that the early Christian church choose the color purple and "issued" an Amethyst ring to it's Bishops as a mark of their Spirituality/cutting ties with worldly temptations. Also, a traditional protection against Harm and Bringer of Success in Battles and Ventures handed down by the Romans, who got it from the Greeks who "borrowed" in from the Egyptians.
Used to treat Headaches, Insomnia, Heart, Blood, and Digestive tract disorders including those of the Skin, Teeth and Stomach. Balances the energies of the Auras affecting the whole body state; physical, intellectual and emotional); transmuting the Neg. into Pos. and amplifying it into every part of ones internal/ external existence. Traditional Ward against "Evil" Witchcraft, "Dark" Sendings, Impure Thoughts/ Feelings and all forms of disease and contagion. Promote successful outcomes in the affairs of Heart and Pocketbook. Used in treatments of Nervous disorders and Sexual dysfunctions. A soothing, smoothing stone for life's little "learning experiences". One Note of Warning: Found a reference that while Amethyst absorbs and transmutes "negative" energy and then projects it as "positive" it will "clog up" after awhile and stop working and that it can Not be emptied or cleansed, but must be returned to the Earth and replaced. Have no idea of the validity of this, but would love to hear from anyone this has happened to.
The Stones of Aquarius (Feb 1- 18):
AMETHYST: It's kind' a Purplish. (See Above)
MOSS AGATE: Used historically, by some Amerindians (don't know which) as power focus and aid in Weather Control especially involving "Rain", both bringing and sending away. Also used to promote Fertility in the Plant Kingdom including sensitivity to and communication with. Promotes Agreeability and Persuasiveness in dealing with others and strengthens/stimulates ones ability the Beauty in All things and situations, no matter how deeply hidden. Used in treating Dehydration, Eye disorders, Fungal infections, and basic detoxing the system. Said also to help relieve symptoms of the Flu and Colds and, if rubbed on Skin will help clear up infections and inflammations.
TURQUOISE: a Stone of Protection; against the Evil Eye, Black Witchcraft, from poison ness Snakes and Spiders, Disease, Violence directed towards you and being thrown from a Horse (will also protect the Horse from injury and becoming over exerted). Has been used to treat Headaches, Eye disorders and Fevers. Traditional (for some) Love Indicator as if Turquoise is exchanged with "lover" as long as the Color remains "true" the Love is strong. If it starts to fade, the Love is on the wane and steps need to be taken to restore both
MOONSTONE: Traditionally; Fulfillment of Desires of Heart. Promotes Restful sleep and Pleasant dreams. Draws forth, empowers ands enhances Feminine energies, aspects and attributes in one's nature. Stimulates confidence and composer. Aids in the acceptance of What IS while adding booster to those activities which most insure a bright future. Historically referred to as "a Traveler's Stone" used to protect you and yours while traveling-especially across water. Used to insure ease of pregnancy, childbirth, PMS, and Change of Life stress. Historically it has been, and still is, a Symbol of the Moon and thus carries all it's "metaphysical potentials.
OPAL: Again, with 19 specific varieties listed in just the references I have on hand, I'll just go with a general "garden variety" Opal and suggest that, like with the Agate, the Rules of Connective ness may be applied. So, quoting Scott Cunningham's "Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem and Metal Magic", "Opal contains the colors as well as the qualities of every other Stone and as such can be "programmed" or "charged" with virtually every type of energy and used in spells involving ALL magical needs". Many "primitive" tribes have used it as a key unlocking Vision Questing and Meditating by bringing mind into focus that which is beyond normal "sight". It is said to bring out hidden beauty and power, to attract Health, Money, Love, and Balance in Life. Used to Disperse/Promote (as treatment) calls for Infections, Eye disorders, Tainted blood and kidney disorders, ease Childbirth and Alleviate Fevers. Note: It is said that wrapping an Opal in a fresh Bay leaf and then carried next to skin will grant the user/carrier Invisibility by blocking others from seeing you. (Much like using a Fire Grizal to Cloud Men's Minds). Helps one draw Creativity, Spontaneity, Inspiration and Imagination into to user's Life/Mind.
GARNET: Energy booster and transformer of/to both physical and spiritual bodies. "Spirit" uses include strengthening physic shields, clearing/cleansing and balancing Auras and Chakras, and redirecting "self" energy from "passion" to "purity"(oh? See below) promoting sincerity, devotion, cooperation, and understanding in both user and between those he/she meets. Physical/Mundane uses include treatment of Depression, Rheumatism, Arthritis, Heart/Blood disorders and a Stimulant for Sex drive and Reproductive system (in a "pure" and "non-passionate" way I presume). Historically, thought and used as Ward against blood sucking insects such as Fleas and Mosquitoes.
FOSSILS: Longevity, and Transmutation of Possible into Probable. Past Life regression via tapping, it's "Organic" Energy field via Psychometry or Mediation. May also be used to "tap" the Elemental forces that brought about "fossilization"; Air, Fire, Water and Earth. No "medical" uses in treatments, but Hardening of Arteries, Kidney Stones, Stiffness of Joints, Cramps and being turned to Stone due to Magical backlash all symbolically come to mind. Be an interesting field of research. Let me know re: results
JET: "Black Amber". More or less combining the Attributes and Properties of Fossils and Hematite. True Jet is quite expensive and unless you are able to tell difference between Real and Synthetics (i.e.-glass) save your money with substituting two for one. However, True Jet dispels/absorbs Fear, Depression, Feelings of Failure and stimulates the body's own Kundalini energy production prompting Growth, Determination and Drive to Succeed. Has been noted that when used in connection with Plants stimulates healthy, rapid growth. Historically, has been used to treat (in powered form) "Bad Teeth" relieving pain and possibility of infection. Also has been used to treat Headaches, Epilepsy, Glandular and Lymphatic swelling and even the symptoms of the common Cold.
AQUAMARINE: Oh, what the heck. See below.
ZIRCONS: Lovely. Another multi-colored assortment with NO indication of which is the "Official" stone, so I'll give a brief "usage" description of each.
Clear/White: Sharpens Mental process and promotes "clear" thinking.
Yellow: Attracts "true" Love and boosts Sexual energy. Dispels Depression and said to aid in successful Business dealings.
Orange: Deters Harm and Theft to self and Property. Enhances "natural" Beauty while warding against Jealousy.
Red: Health (mental and physical) and Money attractant. Boosts Strength and Energy levels to meet needs.
Brown: Grounding and Centering on Earth matters and channeling Earth energy.
Green: Growth boost for Crops and personal wealth.
Medically, with no indication in my references as to which colors, has been used in treatments for increased Bone stability (strengthening and mending), disorders of the Sciatic nerve, and Vertigo. Is all said to be "general" treatment in poisoning cases.
Stone of Pisces (Feb 19-28/29)
AMETHYST: Well, like I said, it's the Pick of the Month. Covered Above.
SAPPHIRE: Presuming they are referring to the Blue/Star Sapphire- stimulates Inner mind/ 3rd Eye and aids in Meditation by easing access to subconscious and opening soul/spirit to "higher vibrations" thus allowing one to view/experience other planes more readily. Also provides one Protection/Shielding against physic attacks both in and out of body. Symbol of Fidelity, Devotion and Truth in Love matters/relationships. Used to treat High Blood Pressure, Insomnia, and Nervous conditions, Fevers, Throat and Blood disorders and general aches/pains in joints.
MOONSTONE: See Above
AQUAMARINE: Adds Expanse and Depth to Meditations, aids in attaining Innocence and Purity of thought and purpose, clarity of Vision/Understanding of situations and relationships. Protects user and user's property against "harm" during "Water" travel (on, above, and below) including from Sea Sickness. Ward against Idleness and Slander. Used in treatments for Throat soreness and congestion, relieving nervous disorders, Glandular problems, and general malaise of the Throat, Jaw and Teeth. Promotes "stability" between significant others. Note: Aquamarine has been historically connected to "the Sea" and Water of all types and a majority of the Deities thereof. So, in my opinion any "workings" of a "water" nature (actual or symbolic) can only be aided by utilizing this Stone.
BLOODSTONE: Red and Green Breaker of Ties, remover of Blockages, and Opener of Doors (metaphorically-unless you have a REALLY big hunk). Protection, Strength, Healing, Fertility, Love/Sex. Best known, however, for it's legendary ability to stop flowing blood from wounds (apply with pressure to wounded area and soon bleeding stops). Also, used to calm fears, promote courage, protect one in battle, attract wealth, and stimulate plant growth, longevity and good health. Worn to prevent miscarriages and ease childbirth, increase physical strength, AND, if anointed with fresh Heliotrope "sap", will "dazzle the senses" of those around you and thus make you 'unseen" by them. Helps to channel Earth/Life related energies and connections. Stimulates workings of whole body, detoxes and purifies blood, kidneys, bladder and liver. Has been used in the treatment of/for Leukemia, Anemia, and Pneumonia. Interesting Note: As Bloodstone is "tap" by workings, the red spots/flecks are said to fade as the stone's power weakens. To re-energize, one should bury the stone in the earth for 3 days and 3 nights.
SUGILITE: Worn/carried to attract and promote Wisdom and increase one's awareness of Spiritual world and one's connections to it. General healing of one's mind and body by gently pushing away of thoughts/ actions that could prove self-destructive. Dispels Anger, Jealousy, Prejudice, Abrasiveness and other social no-nos as well as Depression, Fear and Paranoia. Used as general panacea for aches, pains and discomforts in all body areas.
ROCK CRYSTAL (i.e.- Clear Quartz): Alrighty; in as much as Quartz is the most common "stone" form on the planet (that we know of) and the Foremost Receiver/Transmitter/Amplifier of Energy of all sorts, all I can say is that what you want to achieve can only be helped along by using Quartz. Kind of a "Miracle Grow" of the Rock Kingdom. One of, if not THE "Swiss Army Rock". I counted, in my books, 67 different recognized Quartz forms (different formations of matrix and combinations with other materials) and didn't bother with the color combinations within some of the categories, however consider these"specialization tools" for very specific workings. In short, go with the Clear and work with the Rule of Connection (All are connected and can be "tapped" by any within the "family") and if You've got a Will, then Rock Crystal will help pave the way.
However, as long as we're discussing Quartz and it being the Valentine's Day month a quick few words about ROSE QUARTZ would, I think, be appropriate. One source calls it the "Gentle Stone of Love" and it has been compared, attribute wise, to a warm bath: comforting, soothing, washing away all that is negative and troubling leaving one feeling at Peace with self and others. Promotes Gentleness from/of within and without and a sense of caring for self and others. Used in the treatment of mental and emotional disorders in inner/outer relationships. Projector of Warm and Fuzzy energy.
And, as I'm on sort a Rock ('n ?) Roll here, let's not leave out Feb. 2nd, Groundhog Day and Holey Stones. Holey Stones are simply any stone, any size that have a Natural (not man made) hole in them. Tradition has it that the Holes are actually doorways or portals that can be accessed to either Bring To a person or Send Away from a person what is desired; Luck (Good-To, Bad-Away), Health (same concept), Wealth (Money In, Poverty out) and so forth. One famous site of Stones, with holes large enough to be passed through by Man or Beast, is at Men-an-Tol, Cornwall England which for centuries has attracted the ill and ill-fortuned who, according to legend, pass through and leave their woes behind. Also, it is said that if one looks through a Holey Stone at the Full Moon that their questions will be answered, or at least as much answered as any Scrying method is capable of. Note: Re: Luck and Holey Stones. Dion Fortune once wrote to the effect that " if one finds a Holey Stone small enough to be picked up and carried around comfortably, then one should consider themselves Very Lucky indeed".

DRAGON SPEAK
THE GREAT MOTHER OF NITH~CARA
"So, you are the Human I have been told about. I must be truthful, I did not want to come here to speak with you. Humans and I are not good friends...too many bad memories. But Gilamere of RisBroghna promised me safe passage, and being a trust worthy dragon, I agreed. I would assume you wish to know my name? Than I shall tell it along with my tale of sadness.
I am the Great Mother, your kind named me so. How you ask does a dragon carry a name given to her by her enemies? T'is easy to tell. Note the scars upon my body, note my missing teeth, ancient I am. Older than all my kind that are left. I have been stabbed, ripped and torn..when they would chain me on my white shores of the Nith~Cara, they would taunt me before the kill, they noted the many scars and wounds upon my hide and laughed,"The Great Mother is down!" They would yell. How foolish they were, every time they caught me, every time I escaped them, lashing with my mighty tail and breaking the chains asunder. Then I made my way to the white waves of my watery domain, finding solitude from the wrath of your kind.
Ahh.. Nith~Cara, how delightful you were, your white sands welcoming to the eye. And your sparkling waters lapping gently, it's white crests calling my name under the warmth of that glorious sun. Can you hear it?
"Great Mother" It would call, "Come home...come home to Nith~Cara."...
And now I dwell within the other realm, within darkness. No loving caress of sweet Nith~Cara upon my old form. No warming of my body upon her white shore. No..instead I dwell here within the dark, damp world where your kind have chased me.
How bitter I am, it runs through my very blood, it eats at me. Every thought holds contempt against you and your dark hearted kind. Do you have an answer for me? Why your kind has tried to destroy me and mine? I thought so...no words upon your lips.
But your heart shows me light Human, it's been so very long since I have seen that among your kind. Are you one of the Kelta~Ma of Nith~Cara? The gentle folk, the first of your kind? The ones who lived on those white shores, the ones who were taken by your own good people and put to the flame? How cruel your kind is...tell me Human, do you hold the memories of the first of your kind? Perhaps not.. perhaps they lay darkened to keep the truth from you, to spare you from the despair of what your own kind has done to me...and you! I grow tired of this Human, tired of these words. I wish to go back to my solitude to dream of my Nith~Cara, for dreams are all your kind have left me. Dreams and bitterness.
Keep the light burning within your heart Human and just perhaps in time... perhaps within my lifetime the shores of Nith~Cara will welcome us both home as friends....

Meditating on your Life's Purpose

Have you ever asked yourself "Why am I here?" and wondered about your life's purpose? Is your life predestined in some way or is it all choice? The answer is likely yes to both. Perhaps you came into this lifetime with specific purposes to fulfill but you have free will choice to do them or not.
Perhaps you are blessed, as I feel I am, to know with certainty that you are here to serve humanity in some way. If that seems like your life's purpose, you have the delightful task of figuring out how. The joy of this adventure can be the freedom of free will choice, but sometimes we can feel overwhelmed at all our infinite options. Or perhaps you are stuck in neutral and don't know what to do next.
Let's suppose you would like to fulfill your highest and greatest destiny here on earth. What would that look like to you? How does that feel? Can you hear your inner voice gently guiding you? Why not take a meditative journey to find these answers from within.
I believe everyone has spirit guides and angels that are always there for you. One of their many purposes is to help you stay on course in your life's journey. They are always willing to offer their gentle guidance and to help you along your path. To hear their messages more clearly, open your heart to the immense love they feel for you, and the channels will open.
I am blessed to have open communication with my spirit guides. I work primarily with a celestial/angelic entity that calls itself "ONE". They are here to serve humanity, and I am honored to channel them. In one of my recent meditation groups "ONE" came through with a beautiful meditation on the subject of finding your life's purpose.
The meditation included a guided visual journey to a crystal castle in a mystical realm, like a grand library of the universe. At this place each of us found one special crystal that was programmed with our life's purpose. We spent time with this crystal and with our spirit guides to journey deep into our soul to receive answers to questions like "Who am I? and "Why am I here?". The meditation was so insightful and enjoyable, I wanted to share it with you in this article.
In this channeled meditation, the "soul crystal" is a good tool for unlocking the secrets of your soul. Think of it as a useful metaphor to access your own higher self.
If you are seeking some clarity about your life's purposes, please take some time for yourself to meditate. Consider your spiritual growth and personal development a priority in your life now. Charting your course now will make for smoother sailing later on. Set aside some "alone time" to sit in a quiet place. You may wish to find a beautiful place in nature or create a sacred space in your own home. If you like, light a white or pink candle for protection and burn some incense to purify and cleanse the spirit. Incense can also help you hold a focused state. You may find it helpful to play soft, relaxing, new age music in the background. Holding a crystal during this particular meditation is especially helpful.
You may wish to read through this meditation now and set aside the time to guide yourself through it or you may wish to tape record yourself reading this meditation slowly, and then play it back for yourself so that you can enjoy the meditative journey in a more relaxed state. If you do tape yourself, give plenty of pause time in between the questions asked to give yourself the time you'll need. To begin your meditation, close your eyes and take several deep cleansing breaths. Feel your body relax as you create a safe and sacred space for your magical work today. In your mind, call in the Energies of God/Goddess/All That Is to join with you. Feel and see the Creator/Source as a loving divine energy entering your heart and filling your body. Imagine the Heart of God descending upon you, giving you a loving and peaceful feeling.
Also welcome the Christ Consciousness, Lord Sananda, the Mother Mary Energies, the Archangels, and your own Angels and Master Teacher Spirit Guides to join with you, asking them to amplify the energies of light. Open yourself to becoming the light. And with each breath you become more relaxed and at peace, aware of the light within you. Feel your higher self come alive, acknowledging your own light body. And as you open to the light that you are, allow yourself to feel lighter, free of the physical body, free of the dense third dimensional reality that you know.
Begin to open your mind and open your spirit to the higher dimensions, and begin to feel your light body ascending, as we are going on a journey, a magical journey to the fifth dimension. Today you are seeking a very special place: There is an immense crystal castle that is a sacred temple, with a crystal Hall of Records. Imagine this great library of the universe. See the beauty of this magical place with huge crystal columns, twinklings of rainbows everywhere, and rays of sunlight dancing through this crystal palace. It is a warm and inviting place, and it is a place that your soul has been before. There is something familiar about it.
And in this great hall of crystal records, there is a place that is just for you. Imagine yourself traveling through this incredible place, as you are guided to a very special crystal, a crystal that has been programmed by your soul. Find your special crystal, as it contains all the wisdom of all your lifetimes, past, present, future. Find yourself with this crystal now, as it radiates the essence of your soul. And as your guides and angels join with you in this magical place, it is time for you to touch and to be with this crystal, and receive its messages that you need now to help you on your path. Hold your magical crystal and receive your messages now. [pause]
And in this crystal there may be a message about what you are completing or perhaps a final block that you must move through. Ask this crystal "What is it of the past that is complete now?" [pause]
And in this magical crystal that is you, ask to see the light, to see the deep truth that you know within your soul. [pause]
And ask this crystal, as you hold it close to you, to reveal to you your life's purposes here. [pause]
And there is even more in your life's purpose, look deeper and see it, know it, and feel it. [pause]
And inside this crystal, deep within your soul's programming, is your highest and greatest destiny, the most positive future, your greatest future. Allow the crystal to show you what is possible. [pause]
And inside this crystal is the "big picture", the view of everyone, all the supportive people in your life, friends, family, guides and angels, all helping you along the way. See, inside the crystal, how the universe will provide everything you need to support you on your life's path. [pause]
And now this crystal becomes an instrument of light, as the powerful Creator/Source ushers in a beam of pure divine energy to illuminate this crystal and to supercharge it with the energy of God/Goddess. Feel the energy of this crystal amplifying your greatest destiny, supercharging your dreams. Feel this crystal come alive with an intense energy of manifestation. [pause] And at this time put into the crystal your own hopes, dreams and wishes for this lifetime. Program now your free will choices into your soul crystal. [pause]
Feel the energy of the crystal amplify as it feeds your dreams and wishes. Your guides and angels surround you, programming the crystal with their love and blessings. Feel the love and support from your guides and angels. [pause]
And lastly, there is one more secret this crystal holds for you. Open to receive that magical secret now. [pause]
And now, the energies and the messages that you have received from your crystal are complete for now and it is time to place the crystal back within the crystal Hall of Records, in its rightful place, as a member of this magical place. Know that you can return to this magical crystal castle at any time to work with your crystal in consciously programming your highest and greatest destinies.
And so it is time to bid a fond "farewell for now" as you gently collect yourself, and slowly find your way back, to your third dimensional reality. Come back to this time and place, knowing that all the messages, visions and gifts are yours to keep, remembering the light of who you are. Give thanks to your higher self and honor all that you are. When you are ready, return to full consciousness, feeling balanced and energized.
I hope you have enjoyed the meditation, but before I close, my loving spirit guides "ONE" would like to share a message with you.
"ONE": "When we speak of your highest and greatest destinies and your greatest dreams, we want you to know that those are very personal to you. Do not feel that you must accomplish anything at all. Your true life's purpose is within your inner heart and your inner knowingness. It may be that you are just meant to be the radiant human being that you are, and perhaps by being yourself you will inspire others to find the God/Goddess within themselves. Perhaps your greatest destiny is to be the greatest listener, the greatest giver, or perhaps it is to be the light-bearer and the truth-bearer. We know that you may have specific goals and dreams, and we encourage that, but do not underestimate the importance of your day-to-day beingness, because truly you radiate the light of who you are, and truly you touch the hearts of others simply by being open and honoring the love that is within you at all times."
"Know as well, dear ones, that indeed there is much in the way of guidance available to you. We know it seems that your choices may appear to be overwhelming and unlimited upon your physical plane. It may be that there are many, many options and so it might be difficult to know which way to turn. Know that you can trust your intuition when it comes from your heart. Even then, you may still hear that little voice of doubt in your mind that is questioning you. To get clear answers, take a few moments to enter a quiet meditation. Ask your gut, your soul, and call in your spirit guides and angels to come and be with you. They can reinforce a positive feeling or reinforce a "maybe not" feeling when you are weighing your decisions and choices. And believe us when we tell you that your guides and angels will help bring through an energy of "YES! YES! YES!" when you are moving forward in the direction towards your highest and greatest purposes here."
"Know as well you also have the joy of being human and that is a great privilege because you have the choice of saying 'to heck with it all, I'm going to plop myself on the sofa and enjoy myself in the front of the talking box for a while'. So understand that you have a choice in every moment to simply relax, be, and enjoy yourself, or to push forward. We encourage you to find that balance for yourself. Find balance in your life as much as you can with your giving and receiving. It is important. Give freely, but be sure to open your heart to receiving the love in return that is always there for you. Know, dear ones, that we love you so very much and indeed we extend our loving, healing energy to each and every one of you."
"Know there is infinite love and energy available to all of you at all times. We encourage you, that in your day-to-day life, take a moment to simply open your heart, open all the chakras and say 'Yes, let me soak in it for awhile. Let me feel that love from the heart of God.'"
"We wish we could take you by the hand everyday and just hold your hand and tell you how much you are loved, how special you are, how grand your purposes are, how immense your capacity for joy is, and how immense your capacity to give and receive love. We want all of you to know that you are magical beings, that you are precious and special. You are the brave ones to have come here lifetime after lifetime, living this human experience over and over and over again. And sometimes your soul says, 'WHY? Aren't I done yet? Enough of this already!' And yet you come back, and for many of you, you come back to serve to give a hand to your fellow humanity to say, 'Come on. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
